George MacDonald Book Club

Sunday, June 22 @ 6:30pm

Everyone is invited to join in on the George MacDonald book club on June 22nd at the Canlis Home at 6:30pm.  We will be discussing The Seaboard Parish - the second book of "The Marshmallow Trilogy."

Please bring with you:
- initial reaction to the book
- favorite passage
- most personally challenging passage

Here is a brief description from the Cullen Collection edition of The Seaboard Parish, the second book in the "Marshmallows Trilogy":

Set in the Cornwall seaside town of Bude and inspired by a MacDonald family holiday a few years earlier, this novel continues the leisurely pastoral pace of minister Harry Walton’s family. Like Annals of a Quiet Neighbourhood, it was first written for “Sabbath reading” in the Sunday Magazine. Almost taking the form of a “family diary,” A Seaboard Parish is yet rich with spiritual insight. Many find more of MacDonald’s memorable nuggets of wisdom in this book than many other of his titles, a wealth deepened by the autobiographical nature of many of the incidents and relationships recounted.

Remember, you only need to read the MIDDLE book of the trilogy - you don't have to read the whole thing! If you want to catch up, you can join us and (if you want) read book 1 and 2 together.

  • Becky Valentine needs help moving her mom, Virginia, from her independent living apartment to an assisted living apartment at Avamere this Saturday. It’s in the same building but all the way on the other side. They will be moving bedroom furniture and living room furniture, as well as kitchen and closet contents. Becky's number is: 321-287-5150.  Please call or text if you are able to help.

  • If anyone has any large ticket items they’d like to donate, the Canlis’ neighborhood is having a giant garage sale to defray legal costs. Contact Julie Canlis at 206-953-4128 to deliver. And come to the garage sale May 16-18 from 9-1pm each day.

  • Guy and Anni Evans’ neighbor is looking for someone to check the yard and gardens every 2 weeks. Remove any weeds, pick up tree branches, etc. Probably 2 to 4 hours. Around $20/hr. If interested, there would be other garden projects if they are agreeable.

  • Eva Keller is looking for a one-to-two-bedroom apartment to rent and is hoping to move around June 1st. She doesn't have any pets. If you know of any available places or have any leads, please feel free to reach out to her via text at 509-312-9016.
